After acquiring full-back Sergio Reguilon and adding 2025 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Dane St. Clair, the club is now focusing on central defense. According to reports from Brazil, negotiations with Palmeiras to sign Michael are at an advanced stage.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian center back’s arrival will be on loan with an option to buy, allowing Miami to evaluate the player’s performance without immediately committing to a budget. Management continues to demonstrate an aggressive strategy, making it clear that their goal is to remain at the top and compete for another MLS Cup title.<\/p>\n

Who is Mikael and why is Inter Miami interested in him?<\/h2>\n

Michael, a 25-year-old left-footed defender, is no stranger to American soccer, having played for the Houston Dynamo in MLS from 2022 to 2024, appearing in 80 competitive games and being a key figure in the team’s 2023 U.S. Open Cup victory. Palmeiras bet on his development and signed Michael for about $4 million in 2024. However, his time at the Brazilian club was inconsistent. Initially, he made his mark in competitions such as the Campeonato Paulista and Brasileir\u00e3o, but he lost continuity after May and ended the season with 28 appearances, including two at the 2025 Club World Cup.<\/p>\n

This lack of time opens the door to a temporary exit that benefits all parties, and this is where Inter Miami comes into play.<\/p>\n

Mikael is a left-footed centre-back but has shown the ability to also play as a right-sided centre-back, and this versatility could be an added bonus for manager Javier Mascherano. Mascherano will likely see him as a first-choice replacement for Maxi Falcon and Noah Allen, at least initially, until he is confirmed in the starting eleven.<\/p>\n
