TOKYO (AP) \u2014 He’ll turn 59 in February, but the world’s oldest professional soccer player is heading into his 41st season with a new club.<\/p>\n

Of course, it’s Tomoyoshi Miura, known in Japan as “King Kazu.” <\/p>\n

Miura announced this week that he has signed a contract with Fukushima United of the third division of the J.League. He is on loan from Yokohama FC and spent last season on loan at fourth-division club Atl\u00e9tico Suzuka.<\/p>\n

They failed to score in seven games against Suzuka.<\/p>\n

Miura has played professionally in Brazil, Italy, Croatia, Australia and Portugal. And of course in Japan. He made his debut in Brazil in 1986 with Santos. Santos was made famous by Brazilian star Pele.<\/p>\n

At the age of 50 in 2017, Oldest player to score in a professional match<\/span>. This surpassed the record held by the prestigious England international Stanley Matthews.<\/p>\n

Miura was one of the first big names in Japanese soccer. He scored 55 goals in 89 appearances and became a star player for the Japanese national team in the 1990s.<\/p>\n
