DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) \u2014 Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his determination to score 1,000 goals by the end of his career.<\/p>\n

And the 40-year-old Portuguese superstar will definitely get there.<\/p>\n

“Barring injuries, I’m sure we’ll reach that number,” Ronaldo said late on Sunday at Dubai’s Globe Soccer Awards, where he was named Middle East’s best player.<\/p>\n

Ronaldo scored twice for Al Nasr in the Saudi Professional League on Saturday, taking his total to 956 goals. His record includes the men’s international record. 143 goals for Portugal<\/span>Ronaldo plans to take this to next year’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.<\/p>\n

Ronaldo, a five-time World Player of the Year, will be 41 years old by the time the World Cup begins.<\/p>\n

“I’m still very motivated to keep going,” the former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus striker said on stage after receiving the award. “It doesn’t matter where I play, whether it’s in the Middle East or Europe. I’ve always enjoyed playing football, winning trophies and scoring goals and I want to continue.<\/p>\n

“You know what my goals are. I want to win more trophies and reach the numbers you know.”<\/p>\n

The World Cup is one of the few trophies missing from Ronaldo’s collection. In 2016, he won the European Championship with Portugal. <\/p>\n
