NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) – Former Scotland winger John Robertson, who won two European Cups with Nottingham Forest and scored the only goal in the 1980 final, has died. He was 72 years old.<\/p>\n

The Premier League club said: statement<\/span> “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Nottingham Forest legend and dear friend John Robertson,” the club said in a statement on Thursday. The cause of death has not been disclosed.<\/p>\n

Robertson won 28 caps for Scotland over a five-year international career, including selection for the 1978 and 1982 World Cups.<\/p>\n

He became a cult hero at Forest after playing an integral role in the East Midlands club’s European Cup wins in 1979 and 1980.<\/p>\n

In 1979, when Brian Clough’s side won the European Cup (later developed into the Champions League) for the first time, Robertson headed in the only goal against Sweden’s Malm\u00f6 in Munich, feeding in a cross for Trevor Francis.<\/p>\n

Twelve months later, Forest successfully defended their European title against Hamburg in Madrid, with Robertson again on the scoresheet in a 1\u20130 win.<\/p>\n

He also won the English League Cup twice with Forest.<\/p>\n

Robertson began and ended his career with Forest, with spells at local rivals Derby in between.<\/p>\n

“Rest in peace, Robbo…our great man,” Forrest said.<\/p>\n
