Nottingham Forest may be in a precarious position in the Premier League, but record signing Omari Hutchinson insists the team can rediscover the form that drove their success last season.<\/div>\n
Forest dominated the league last season under coach Nuno Espirito Santo, finishing second behind Liverpool after 20 games, but faltered in the final stages and finished seventh, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.<\/div>\n
Nuno was sacked after just three games into the 2025\/26 season and replaced by Ange Postecoglou, whose reign ultimately lasted just 39 days, leaving Forest in the bottom three.<\/p>\n
It has been a tumultuous period for Hutchinson, who signed from Ipswich Town for \u00a337.5m in the summer. Hutchinson was largely limited to substitute appearances under Nuno and Postecoglou and was also left out of Forest’s UEFA Europa League squad.<\/p>\n
Speaking live on TNT Sports and Discovery Plus ahead of Forest’s home game against Manchester City on Saturday, Hutchinson admitted he was frustrated by the lack of playing time.<\/div>\n

“I watched the first game against Brentford (a 3-1 win) and it was very entertaining and I thought it was a good reward,” he told TNT Sports in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was training but not playing so I was a bit confused but no one said anything to me.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously when that situation happened (Nuno left) and Ange came in, I was training hard again and trying to make a good impression.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hadn\u2019t played a game under the previous manager, but obviously he had to win games right away and he was going to put his trust in the players that were playing, so he stuck to that philosophy as well.<\/p>\n
“It was tough, but it’s something I’ve carried with me throughout my playing career, including from a young age.<\/p>\n
“I’m kind of used to it because some guys played on me and I had to sit on the bench when I was too small. It’s nothing I haven’t faced before.”<\/p>\n

Hutchinson’s fortunes have changed under new manager Sean Dyche, and his results have improved sharply since taking over in October, winning seven of his first 13 games.<\/p>\n
Hutchinson made his first start for the club in a 1-0 win over Wolves on December 3 and has maintained his place in the league ever since.<\/p>\n
“It was obviously difficult for me, but it didn’t last long. Luckily since Sean came in, I’ve impressed Sean. I started getting minutes off the bench and got my chances,” Hutchinson added.<\/p>\n
“He is a very good coach. He likes simple things and believes that teams need strong bonds.<\/p>\n
“He wants a hard-working team and obviously he wants to get results, but whether it’s in any way, whether it’s sitting out games, whether it’s attacking with our quality – we have the players who can do that – he just wants to win games.<\/p>\n
“He makes our lives easier. Of course, training is very difficult, but it only benefits us in the matches. He wants to outdo the team and outdo the team, and that is what we have been working on in training.”<\/p>\n
Hutchinson’s patience was tested during the early months of his Forest career with extended periods on the bench, but he looked to his family and team-mates for reassurance as he waited for his chance. That mindset, he says, was shaped by a similar experience early in his career.<\/p>\n
“Fortunately, I have a good family and even my teammates told me that I was still young, that I had a lot of games to play, and that injuries and suspensions would happen at some point,” he said. \u201cYou never know when that time will come, so you have to be prepared.<\/p>\n
“I believe in myself and I’ve always been hungry to show people who I am. I’ve had a similar experience with Arsenal before, but I wasn’t playing, so I know how it feels and I know it can change that way. I knew it was short-term. I just have to keep my head down and keep working.”<\/p>\n
“We need to start adding goals now, but we feel like we’re on the right track and we’re regaining momentum.”<\/p>\n

Expectations were high after he arrived at the City Ground with the club’s biggest-ever contract, but Hutchinson insists the size of the transfer fee was never a burden.<\/p>\n
“I forgot I was even signing the record. I just want to forget about that and just get on the pitch and show what I’m capable of and get some minutes,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I know it’s not easy to come to a new team and fit in right away, but I knew I could play to my quality. I was more disappointed that I couldn’t play. Nobody told me that you’re a club record signing. Basically nobody cares. You just get on with it. It’s out of your control. I didn’t pay attention to it.”<\/p>\n
Missing out on European football has also been a source of frustration, but Hutchinson believes it has only made him more focused.<\/p>\n
“I’m more hungry to be on the pitch. It’s very frustrating at the same time, but I’m leaving it in God’s hands and what happens will happen,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I think all the hard work I’ve put in behind closed doors has paid off because I came off the bench and got my chance. I’ll be ready to return to the team in January and hopefully make my European debut.”<\/p>\n
Forest will host Premier League title challengers Manchester City on Saturday as they aim to move further away from the relegation zone and move closer to the top half of the table.<\/p>\n
Memories of Callum Hudson-Odoi’s win over Josep Guardiola’s side last season are still fresh, and Hutchinson believes Forest’s recent turnaround in form has restored confidence within the squad ahead of this big test.<\/p>\n
“Everyone has been ambitious since I joined here to get back to where we were last season and even better. We haven’t had the start we would have liked, but we’re getting back on track now,” he said.<\/p>\n
“They’ve built a bond, so we’re trying to get that bond back and start winning games again. Last season they were dominating teams and winning games, but now the backroom staff situation is all settled as well. We just want to get back to winning games consistently.”<\/p>\n

Nottingham Forest players and staff supported communities across the city over the Christmas period, including visits to Hima’s Salam Shalom Kitchen at Hyson Green Community Hub, where hot meals were distributed to over 150 people and over 200 pieces of warm clothing were donated.<\/p>\n
The players are also supporting City Ground Food and Multibank Collection, with Nikola Milenkovic, Dan Ndoye and Mats Sells helping to encourage donations from supporters, along with donations from players and their families.<\/p>\n
The club also opened the City Ground to bring people together over Christmas, hosted a Forest Family Social to help overcome social isolation, and held two festive parties for over 150 children and young people, including Warriors United.<\/p>\n
Away from the stadium, Dyche and the players visited the Children’s Hospital at Queen’s Medical Center and spent time with families over the Christmas period, while the Magic Moments campaign continued to provide families with behind-the-scenes experiences at the game.<\/p>\n
