(AP) &#8211; The Colorado Rapids have hired Tottenham Hotspur assistant Matt Wells to replace Chris Armas as coach.<\/p>\n<p>major league <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\">soccer<\/span> The club made the decision to make the move on Tuesday, almost two months later. <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\">Farewell to Armas<\/span> After two seasons in office.<\/p>\n<p>Rapids president Padraig Smith said: &#8220;Matt brings a wealth of Champions League, Europa League and Premier League experience, a proven commitment to player development and a clear and exciting tactical identity that we believe will put our players in an excellent position to win trophies.&#8221; \u201cHis track record of success and ambitions align with our long-term vision for the club and we look forward to taking the club into championship contention under his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wells, 37, was part of Tottenham&#8217;s staff for more than two seasons. He previously coached in Tottenham&#8217;s academy system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am a very ambitious person who has been surrounded by elite players and coaches over the past seven years, and I am excited to bring my experience and winning mentality to this organization,\u201d said Wells. &#8220;From the very beginning of our discussions, it was clear that the club shared my ambition to create something special and compete for top honors.
