Luis Enrique shocks PSG players with his amazing touch

There was a project in Mexican football that managed to consolidate, perhaps not by winning titles, but by leaving a good impression. Therefore, MARCA MX will look back at what happened in Liga MX in 2025.

Toluca takes full control in 2025

In 2025, Toluca experienced the most exciting year in Liga MX under the technical guidance of Antonio Mohamed, winning two championships and starring in both tournaments.

The key player for Diablos Rojos this year is Alexis Vega, who has regained his excellent level not only with the Mexican team but also with the Mexican national team, and his excellent form has earned him a call-up again.

Another player who has established himself in Antonio Mohamed’s starting lineup is Marcel Ruiz. The Mexican footballer’s development was evident throughout 2025, with the Red Devils signing their 12th star and becoming a key element in their project to become the second most successful team in Liga MX.

USA: From 3-time champion to titleless

On the other hand, it was a year to forget for the United States, who missed out on three championships. This string of good results and joy achieved in recent tournaments ended in a painful way for Azulclemas in 2025.

Clausura 2025 ended with Aguilas dominating and taking second place against Toluca. Before that, they were eliminated from the Conca Champions by Cruz Azul and failed to prove their strength in the region.

Although the USA continued to be active on the international stage, they lost in the playoffs and lost their chance to participate in the Club World Cup. They ended 2025 at home in Liga MX with a last-minute exit.

Cruz Azul and Tigres: solid project but no reward

On the one hand, we have Cruz Azul, who won the Conca Champions and became the biggest winners in the region along with the USA, winning another title and ending the school year on a good note.

But it happened even when Vicente Sanchez was on the bench. After the arrival of Nicolas Larcamon, we saw a good team, but there were two moments in this second half. It was a disastrous December, going 7-0 in the League Cup, being eliminated from Liga MX, and losing in the American Derby.

There were a lot of changes for the Tigres this year, but the most important was the retirement of Guido Pizarro and the replacement of Coach Cat, who has already known this organization for many years and is one of the most beloved coaches by the fans.

Apertura 2025 was Guido Pizarro’s first full season in which he reached the final, although he was eliminated from the Conca Champions in the first half of the year against Cruz Azul.

Although neither Tigres nor Cruz Azul were able to win the Liga MX title, there is no doubt that both teams’ projects aim to continue competing, and they were one of the most consistent teams throughout the year.
