Manager Ruben Amorim said Manchester United were “different to other clubs” and said there was a “sense of urgency to win” and a lack of time to achieve it.<\/div>\n

The 40-year-old has been in the Old Trafford dugout for just over a year, but has spent much of his tenure under immense pressure as United have been in poor form.<\/p>\n

In the Premier League, there were signs of improvement throughout October, with successive wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, and this month they extended their unbeaten record with 2-2 draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. <\/div>\n
However, Monday night’s 1-0 home defeat to Everton’s 10-man side darkened the mood once again, and Amorim knows his side cannot afford to produce more of the same performance. <\/div>\n
Ahead of United’s trip to play Crystal Palace on Sunday, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and Discovery Plus, Amorim spoke about the difficulty of balancing long-term projects with short-term results.<\/div>\n

“I think it’s obvious that it takes time, especially in the Premier League now, where every other club is preparing seriously for everything and has improved a lot,” the United manager said. <\/p>\n

“Then we need to win now. If we don’t, something will change and we know that. So we just need to get better.”<\/p>\n

“That’s how I feel. For me, it’s the urgency of winning. It’s not good not to win at Manchester United. There’s no time here. So that’s how I feel.” <\/p>\n

“That’s why I’m always frustrated. So, again, I know we need time, but this club doesn’t have time. So let’s do our best to win the game.”<\/p>\n

United had 25 shots against Everton on Monday but failed to convert any of them, conceding Everton’s only goal of the game on target. <\/p>\n

With this defeat, they missed out on the chance to move up to fifth place and level on points with fourth-placed Aston Villa, and will instead head into this weekend’s game in 10th place.<\/p>\n

For Amorim, it underlined the nuances in the Premier League and how a single moment can have a significant impact on the ‘story’ surrounding United. <\/p>\n

Talking about the team’s defense, he said: “If we are better at this moment, we should get more points and the whole story will be very different. <\/p>\n

\u201cImagine, if we win the game against Everton, this whole conversation will be completely (different). You ask me about the top four here. One game, one shot on goal. <\/p>\n

“That’s why it’s so frustrating when the game ends. You have to understand that this club is different from other clubs. So let’s do everything to avoid this.”<\/p>\n

‘I feel anxious’ Amorim on ‘pressure’ of playing for United <\/h2>\n

Amorim also recognizes the influence a club’s status has on its players, and spoke of the “pressure” of playing for United when asked about Patrick Dorg. <\/p>\n

Wing-backs have been in and out of the team this season, with Amorim also switching to Diogo Dalot on the left. <\/p>\n

Amorim said he would like to see Dorgu be “more composed” on the ball, something he saw from him when he played for Denmark.<\/p>\n

He said the 21-year-old’s decision-making during international duty was “completely different to our team”.<\/p>\n

But the United manager recognizes this is a symptom of playing for the Reds. <\/p>\n

“You can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball, and I feel that anxiety too,” Amorim said.<\/p>\n

“Remember that shot against Everton? That was an easier decision than the one he had to make (for Denmark) when he had Scotland. He makes great decisions. I saw it when he played in Italy.” <\/p>\n

“But here again it’s different. The pressure can be tough on them at first. But he has time to improve.”<\/p>\n

Asked if United would consider adding reinforcements in this position given the form of Dorg and Dalot, Amorim replied: “We have time to think about it. I don’t know if it will happen in January.” <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I see them training, I feel like they are performing much better than in the games. <\/p>\n

“All you need to do to help them is understand the situation. I think they are far from their best and they know it.”<\/p>\n
