Gomez has emerged as a potential target for the Red Devils as they prepare to revamp their midfield over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Casemiro has shined in the engine room this season and looks set to leave Old Trafford unless new terms are put in place. United have the option of extending his contract for a further 12 months, but it is thought the club would prefer to try to cut his wages rather than triggering an extension.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>    Crystal Palace&#8217;s Adam Wharton and Brighton&#8217;s Carlos Baleva have been touted as targets for United, but both stars come with a price tag of around \u00a3100m.<\/p>\n<p>However, Gomez could end up leaving for a significantly lower fee of \u00a344 million, especially if Wolves are eliminated from the Premier League this season.<\/p>\n<p>The West Midlands outfit recently appointed Edwards as their new manager.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of his first game in the hot seat against Palace, Edwards was asked about the possibility of Gomez leaving Molineux in January or during the summer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>He said: &#8220;We&#8217;ve been talking about a lot of things, but my focus is on organizing the team. We have some good players and there will always be interest, but I haven&#8217;t noticed anything. Jo\u00e3o was great this week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wolves suffered a 2-0 defeat on Edwards&#8217; debut and if this trend continues Gomez may seek a move to maintain their Premier League status. If United are successful in signing Gomez, manager Matheus Cunha will give him a warm welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Cunha has spoken highly of his former teammate and has suggested that Gomez could reach the same level as Casemiro if given the green light.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;He&#8217;s a little older, but I put Casemiro&#8217;s name only to show the possibility of Joao Gomez arriving. I think Joao has the potential to arrive. He&#8217;s very humble and works hard. Then good teams come like a gift.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s an incredible player on the pitch. I feel very secure. I feel like if there&#8217;s a midfielder behind me I might lose the ball.
