Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the US owners of Liverpool FC, have reportedly lost interest in buying the La Liga club. The investment group took over Liverpool from previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in October 2010, and under its management led the Reds to two Premier League titles, one Champions League, three League Cups, one FA Cup and one Club World Cup.<\/p>\n

The group, led by principal owner John W. Henry, was also responsible for appointing Jurgen Klopp as manager in 2015, followed by Arne Slott as his successor. There have been rumors in recent years that FSG are keen to invest in another football club outside of England, with Spain being mentioned as a potential destination. La Liga side Getafe were rumored to be attracting FSG’s attention.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Last summer, reports surfaced that FSG were in talks with Getafe’s current owners about a possible takeover. It has been suggested that the deal could be worth more than \u00a3100m if an agreement is reached, with Getafe said to be worth around \u00a3160m.<\/p>\n

However, according to Spain’s Marca, FSG has abandoned plans to buy Getafe. There are said to be two reasons why FSG will no longer pursue a contract for the club.<\/p>\n

The report suggests that La Liga’s salary cap rules are discouraging FSG from acquiring Getafe, with the rules reportedly preventing Liverpool’s owners from investing as much as they want in the short term to strengthen their squad.<\/p>\n

Also, according to Transfermarkt, the average age of Getafe’s current team is 28.2 years old, which is not in line with FSG’s vision.<\/p>\n

FSG are thought to be looking for a club that can develop young talent that they can sell for a profit or use as a stepping stone before moving to Liverpool.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear where Liverpool’s owners will turn next in their search for a new club after it emerged that FSG are no longer pursuing a deal for Getafe club president \u00c1ngel Torres.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
