LONDON (AP) \u2014 The opening match of the 2028 European Championship will be held at the Welsh National Stadium in Cardiff, organizers announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The next Euro will be co-hosted by Great Britain and Ireland, with the semi-finals and final to be held at Wembley Stadium in London.<\/p>\n
Details were confirmed at Wednesday’s official tournament presentation, including event branding.<\/p>\n
England were co-hosts of Euro 2020, but it was postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was also held in 1996.<\/p>\n
The 2028 edition expands to the UK and Ireland and includes eight host cities.<\/p>\n
The qualifying draw will take place in Belfast in December 2027.<\/p>\n

The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 9, 2028 at the National Stadium of Wales. The final will be held at Wembley on July 9th.<\/p>\n

The quarter-finals will be held at the Dublin Arena, Hampden Park, Wales National Stadium and Wembley.<\/p>\n
One match in the Round of 16 will be played at each host stadium except Wembley.<\/p>\n

24 teams will play a total of 51 games over 31 days.<\/p>\n
The planned format is that the top two teams in the six mini-groups will advance to the Round of 16 along with the top four teams in third place.<\/p>\n
It is a straight knockout tournament from the round of 16 to the final.<\/p>\n

Cosponsors will participate Euro 2028 qualifying<\/span>two spots are reserved for the highest ranked teams that did not qualify directly.<\/p>\nIf England qualify directly, the opening group game would be played in Manchester, with the next two matches at Wembley.<\/p>\n
If Scotland, Wales and Ireland qualify directly, their group matches will also be played in front of home fans.<\/p>\n
