Cristiano Ronaldo returned to international headlines after a new interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, published on Thursday, November 6th, on the show Piers Morgan Uncensored. During the conversation, the 40-year-old Portuguese striker also reflected on his personal life and relationship with fame, declaring: “There is no one more famous than me.”

No one on earth is more famous than me right now

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledges McDonald’s employee who once gave him food

The conversation began with Morgan mentioning President Donald Trump and recalling the time during the G7 summit in Canada, when the president received a Portugal national team jersey signed by a soccer player. Additionally, the journalist noted that both Ronaldo and Trump are probably “two of the most famous people on the planet.”

In response to this comment, the player responded with a smile. “Let’s have a debate for the world: Who is more famous, me or Donald Trump?” When Morgan asked for his opinion, Ronaldo replied without hesitation: “Me.” And he claimed: “I think all over the world, even in small islands, they know me better than he does…There is no one more famous than me in the world.”

Cristiano reflects on fame and its personal impact

Piers Morgan suggested in a speech that in other eras figures such as Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth and Nelson Mandela would have been more popular, but admitted that the debate now boils down to “Ronaldo and Trump”.

The Al Nasr striker, who has over 650 million followers on Instagram, has spoken candidly about what it means to live under constant attention. “I don’t like it. It is what it is. It’s boring, believe me,” he confessed. “I wish I wasn’t so famous. I didn’t want to be. I wanted to be successful and I thought I could be a star, but I never became that famous…”

Engagement with Georgina Rodriguez and million dollar ring

In addition to talking about his global fame, Ronaldo confirmed that he is engaged to his partner of eight years, Georgina Rodriguez. The player recalled the moment of his proposal and highlighted Georgina’s sincere reaction to the ring, which cost more than $5 million.

“One of the things I like is that she didn’t care about the ring. She asked me if I was sincere and I said, ‘I love you and I want to get married,'” the footballer said. “I didn’t cry, but there were tears in my eyes.”

In this interview, Ronaldo once again showed his most human side. Despite his success and worldwide recognition, Idol admits that fame can be just as much of a burden as his accomplishments on the pitch.
