Manchester United lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final last season, but Lenny Yolo says the Red Devils can forget that result this weekend

Lenny Yolo believes Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham is an opportunity to right the wrongs of their Europa League final defeat. Despite Ruben Amorim leading United to a disastrous 15th place in the Premier League last season, the Red Devils fought their way to the Europa League final and were on the brink of winning silver against Spurs.

Tottenham had not lifted the trophy since 2008, but they suffered a crushing 1-0 victory at Bilbao’s San Mamés Stadium. The defeat meant United failed to qualify for European football for only the second time since England returned to UEFA competition in 1990 after a five-year exile.

This weekend will be the first meeting between the two teams since that harrowing night in Spain. Yoro said, “I think the current team has good momentum.

“We drew the last game, but I think before that we won three games in a row. We know we can do better than the last game, but we still have good momentum.”

“We are still confident. As you said, this game against Tottenham will be important for us to get the three points and go into the international break. This will help us top the league, so we need to win this game.”

When asked about revenge, he said: “Yes, we all know what happened in the final. So I think this match will be a good match to prove that a different result can be achieved in the final. Every match is important for us. This match is not more important than the others, but we want to win every match.”

He added: “Yes, I think next year’s Champions League was important for us and also this year. But we can’t change anything now. We only have one game a week now.”

“So I think it helped me a little bit to work more on the areas that weren’t good last year. Now we have more time to work on them but of course everyone wants to play in the Champions League so this final is important for us so we need to be better this year.”

“I’m not going to say we’re the better team because we’re the same team, but when you look at the results you can see there are some things we’re better at. Of course we had some new players.”

“And they do everything they can to help us get better. We’re the same team, but I think sometimes we have a different spirit and we put in more work hours.”

After winning the Europa League, Tottenham finished in a dismal 17th place in the Premier League and Ange Postecoglou was sacked as manager despite winning the silver medal as Tottenham turned to Thomas Frank as his replacement.

Spurs currently occupy 6th place in the table and enjoyed an impressive 4-0 win against Copenhagen in midweek’s Champions League match.
