NAPLES, Italy (AP) – Napoli’s concerns were confirmed with the following news: kevin de bruyne<\/span> He suffered a severe injury to his thigh muscle and will be out of action for several months.<\/p>\n

De Bruyne pulled up immediately<\/span> He held the back of his right thigh after converting a penalty to seal Napoli’s 3-1 win against Inter Milan on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The former Manchester City midfielder appeared distraught and had to be helped off the field by two medical staff. He was then seen sitting on a bench with crutches strapped tightly to his thighs.<\/p>\n

“Kevin De Bruyne, injured in the game against Inter, underwent an instrumental examination at the Pineta Grande Hospital, where a severe lesion was found in the biceps femoris of his right thigh,” Napoli said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n

“The player has already started the rehabilitation process.”<\/p>\n

The Serie A team did not say when De Bruyne would be back, but said the injury is similar to those sustained by his Napoli and Belgium team-mates. Romelu Lukaku<\/span> During a preseason friendly match. Lukaku is likely to return in January.<\/p>\n

The penalty took De Bruyne’s tally of goals in eight Serie A games to four. It also helped send Napoli to the top of the league, but it could have come at a heavy price.<\/p>\n

Fellow midfielder Stanislav Lobotka is also injured, and Franck Anguissa will represent Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations in December and January.<\/p>\n

The news will also come as a blow to Belgium, who have a crucial World Cup qualifier next month. De Bruyne has scored six goals in his last five matches for his country.<\/p>\n
