Mainu rose through United’s academy system and was progressed by Erik ten Hag.

The midfielder impressed immediately and capped off his first season with a goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley. His performances earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024, where the Three Lions reached the final, but his chances have diminished significantly since Amorim’s arrival. The 19-year-old was completely overlooked in the Portuguese manager’s opening two games and has since been restricted to brief appearances from the bench. Amorim instead opted to play Casemiro ahead of himself.

Parker believes there must be underlying tensions, as he revealed to MyBettingSites: “You have to ask why Mainu isn’t being used in that midfield. Somewhere because I’ve seen it all the time, it has to be personal. It has to be personal and the truth has to be told somewhere. He doesn’t like him or he doesn’t like him as a player. It makes no sense at all.”

Despite Mainu’s impressive development at United, speculation has emerged over a possible departure, with PSR having the advantage of releasing an academy graduate. The youngster would still command a hefty transfer fee, but United have a famous tradition of supporting emerging stars and Parker was cautious about selling him given his early contributions.

He said: “If we allow Mainu to be released because he’s a local boy, we’re going to have a big problem. But that’s not the only problem. It’s about what he achieved in a short period of time, and he’s not given time and respect.”

Amorim has been under intense scrutiny regarding Mainu’s appointment, but he spoke frankly about the growth he expects from the midfielder’s performance. “I have a lot of faith in Koby, but some people think that Koby Mainu is already finished. I think he can be better. He can improve in many ways,” he said.

Mainu found himself fighting for opportunities alongside players such as Manuel Ugarte, whose game time has been limited under Amorim’s regime. It was widely reported that the Old Trafford side were looking to sign a defensive midfielder in the center of the pitch, which led to the signing of Carlos Baleva.

United’s tactical approach under Amorim, which he has refused to abandon, requires energy in the center of the park, and this has been highlighted as a concern in the current first-team selection in the early stages of the season.

Source link

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker is adamant that he harbors a private and “personal” grudge against Koby Mainu as Ruben Amorim remains relegated to the reserve bench despite his former talent.
