Carney Chukwuemeka has been slightly forgotten in the last 12 months of chaos at Chelsea.
We were all really excited to see we had signed him at first, but he got desperately few chances in the end and it really wasn’t the right moment to bring in a youngster given the chaos around him.
There was a lot of expectation he would be heading out on loan to change that situation, but instead the club have sold off so many players around him that he’s really been bumped up the pecking order. This could be a season to stick around and take your chances under the new regime.
Speaking to the media at Chelsea’s press day ahead of the game against Wrexham, he clearly thinks the same:
“[Pochettino]’s come in and said that he sees the talent that he wants to develop and help develop me,” Chukwuemeka said in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.
“Whether that’s in a month or six months, but I want to stay and prove to everyone what I can do, and help the club.
“At the end of the day we’ll sit down and come together to decide what’s best for me.”
It’s difficult to know what Chelsea’s squad will look like in a month, but whether he stays or does end up going out on loan, it seems certain he will get a lot more appearances this season – starting tonight.
