€32m midfielder worth more to Chelsea than anyone else

Chelsea have sold off a lot of players this summer, but there could yet be more to go. Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher are up for sale, according to some sources.

Reporting in the the Athletic claims that Chelsea “will listen to offers” for the pair, although it’s certainly hard to see Gallagher going.

He can be used in a deeper midfield role alongside Enzo Fernandez or in a 3 there, and given we’ve sold off almost every other player in that position, we can’t see why we would get rid of him too.

Even if he sticks around we might need to sign two players – why put ourselves in a position where we might need 3? We will only find ourselves getting stung by clubs knowing we need to buy.

Transfermarkt value Gallagher at €32m, and we would expect to get €40m or more at the very least. But even then, selling him seems a huge mistake, and very unlikely given the rest of our activity this summer.

We’ve recouped all the cash we need, and in Gallagher we have a talented young home grown player, with the ability to play in a couple of positions we’re pretty short in.

In a year’s time, things could look very different. But we can bet you know, if you told Mauricio Pochettino that Gallagher was the next to go, he wouldn’t be too happy about the idea, no matter what signings he’s been promised down the line.
