Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail is today reporting that Chelsea are planning talks with Conor Gallagher over a new contract.
The midfielder has just 18 months left to run on his current deal, and has been a key player this season, starting 7 games and acting as captain on four occasions.
Kajumba says that Chelsea are “happy” with Gallagher, who was excellent on Monday night, again wearing the armband, as the Blues made it two wins in a row with a confident victory over Fulham. The England regular was man of the match by many people’s estimations.
Of course, if they tie him down to a new deal that’s great news. But that shouldn’t distract anyone from the fact that those same sporting directors who will now put on a cheesy grin and hold a pen in the photo next to him were the ones doing their best to boot him out on deadline day.
We’re not going to forgive them for that too easily – let’s hope Conor is more forgiving.
