Another day, another wonderkid…
This time it’s Estevao Willian, a 16 year old breaking through at Palmeiras in the wake of teammate Endrick, who has already been signed to Real Madrid.
Goal in Brazil are on the case, saying that the 16 year old is going to move to Stamford Bridge for €40m – although like with Endrick, Kendry Paez and other players signed from South America, they can’t complete their transfer and make the switch to Europe until they’re 18.
Willian only signed his first professional contract back in April, and it has a release clause of €45m. By the sounds of things, Chelsea will look to pay a little less, but perhaps include a sell on clause. Presumably he will also be left on loan at Palmeiras until 2025, when he will be old enough to come to Europe.
He looks a real talent – but we’ve said that about plenty of youngsters who never ended up making the grade.
